The Cost of Leadership
Christina Bernet, P.E.
October 12, 2023 @ 1:00-2:00 PM EST
What gets us to the next level won't keep us there. Technical skills get us promoted, but they aren't the same skills that help us lead a team. In this workshop, you will learn why the way we lead matters and will be provided with tangible tools to add to your leadership toolbelt!
Leading Yourself: Learning to Increase Your Emotional Intelligence
Mazi Robinson, MS, LPC, CPCS, NCC
October 19, 2023 @ 1:00-2:00 PM EST
Self-awareness is our superpower as leaders. To effectively lead others, we must first learn to lead ourselves, and we do this by deepening our self-awareness. Without self-awareness, we live reacting... reacting to things other people do or say, to things beyond our control, and in ways that are not congruent with our values or how we want to come across. A lack of self-awareness leads to disconnection from self and unproductive leadership. Self-aware leaders understand what they are thinking, how they are feeling, and can effectively communicate and respond in any situation. In this live webinar, Licensed Counselor and Speaker Mazi Robinson will discuss strategies for increasing our self awareness, emotional intelligence, and empathetic leadership skills so that we can more effectively lead ourselves and others.
Networking Strategies: An Unconventional Approach to Connecting with Others
Nancy Watt
October 26, 2023 @ 1:00-2:00 PM EST
The word "networking" conjures up images of socializing, glad handing, inane small-talk, and elevator pitches - everything that makes the engineer's eyeballs roll.
In this unconventional networking workshop by writer, improviser, speaker, and humor researcher Nancy Watt, attendees learn the art and science of listening, authenticity, and human connection. Using the tools and techniques of improvisational theatre, our communication skills improve and we appreciate and build on the connections made.
These same techniques are now part of engineering curriculum in many universities, providing engineers with a much-needed communication skill set.
"The bottom line is that so much of engineering work is collaborative, and the kind of communication skills that improv cultivates in invaluable." - Ed Scheinerman, Vice Dean for Graduate Education. Johns Hopkins University.
