Cyber-attacks and Resiliency

Cyber-attacks continue to increase in frequency and sophistication.  Of particular concern are the cyber-attacks on infrastructure and utilities.  In this session we will review details of some recent cyber-attacks, provide recommendations on how organizations can be resilient to cyber-attacks, and how the engineering community can help.

James Livermore is a senior information technologist with 30 years of global experience in IT operations, compliance, security, audit, data privacy, and risk management.  He oversees CDM Smith’s Global Information Security Department and has an extensive history of providing guidance and support to many organizations on security risk assessments, compliance requirements, data protection, design and hardening of Industrial Control Systems and SCADA networks, securing emerging technologies, and security awareness training.  James is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), and is Certified in Risk and Information Systems Controls (CRISC).

Dave Ubert

CDM Smith

Mr. Ubert is an Automation Specialist with 3 decades of experience in process control and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) in the water and wastewater, Power, food and pharmaceutical, and Department of Defense industries. His experience includes designing and implementing safe and secure control/communication systems, designing and building control panels, as well as programming multiple PLC and HMI platforms. He also has experience developing SCADA systems that are cyber-secure, collaborating with IT and OT professionals. He currently leads the automation practice for CDM Smith.
