Engineering Ethics: The Basics
Join NSPE-DC President Dan Hanlon, P.E., F.NSPE and NSPE Treasurer and Chair of the Board of Ethical Review Susan Sprague, P.E., F.NSPE as they explore the ethics, and specifically the NSPE Code of Ethics, that are at the heart of the engineering profession and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the public. (Session is free to engineers in DC, MD, and Virginia)
Whether or not you have ever met an engineer, we all deserve to live in a world where engineering decisions that impact our lives are made by qualified and ethically accountable professionals.
In this presentation, we will review the history of ethics and the following:
•Why we should study Engineering Ethics and practice engineering ethically
•Situational awareness in applying ethical principles
•Hierarchy of ethical obligations
•The principles of the NSPE Code of Ethics
•Review case studies in applying the Code of Ethics
Presenter Bio:
Ms. Sprague has over 34 Years of experience with all types of infrastructure projects in PA, MD, and DC. Susan is a licensed PE in 5 states (PA, MD, OH, DC, and VA), a Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), and Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) in PA. She has a BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University and is a Senior Associate at Johnson, Mirmiran and Thompson where she has been employed since 2006.
Ms. Sprague was elected Treasurer of NSPE in 2019. Since 2016, Susan has been on the NSPE Board of Ethical Review, and Chair since 2018. She is a past-president of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. In her spare time, she plays golf and takes ballroom dancing lessons. She lives with her husband of 24 years in Dallastown, PA.
